4 Creative Bunk Bed Ideas For Your Child's Bedroom

To decorate a kid's bedroom using bunk beds, you can decorate a bunk bed so it resembles a meadow scene, bunk beds can be fashioned to be like a palace, put some multi-colored lighting or make the bunk bed look like a tree house.

In order to make your kids bunk beds in your children's room more fun-looking and much more attractive, you can modify these beds. There are lots of bunk beds themes available, just don't forget to consider what your kids want for their room prior to starting the project.

Paint the bunk bed to look like a meadow

A meadow decor for their bunk beds may be a fun idea especially for your little girls. For it to resemble the sky, paint the top bunk with sky blue paint and include images like a sun and some clouds. You can use a stencil to paint the sun and clouds directly on the sky blue paint or, instead, you can paste pictures of clouds and a sun. For the lower bunk, paint it with a combination of green and brown so that it resembles the ground. Butterflies and flowers could be painted upon the surface of the bottom bed frame. Flowers and garlands can even be used to spice up the bed; twist these on the bed rails and the posts. Placing the props on the ladder or hanging them too low can make it very risky for your child's movement of going up and down the ladder.

Make the bunk bed look like a castle

A castle motif will work well for both little boys and girls. Cap the top of bed posts with paper mache towers or towers made of cardboard tubes. You can add small flags on the tip of the towers as details. Use paint to fashion the bed posts and framework like stone. The floor surrounding the bed can also be decorated to resemble a moat. Blue carpeting works well as a moat around the bed. To make an item that resembles a wooden draw bridge, cut a piece of cardboard, paint it to resemble the bridge and then lay it over the blue carpet perpendicular to the bed.

Put some multi-colored lighting

A simple but functional option for your bunk bed is to enhance it with multi-colored lights. Surrounding your kid's bunk bed and bed posts with colorful lights will help them see even in the dark. You can also paint the ladder of the bed with glow-in-the-dark paint so your kids will have better visibility when climbing up to the top bunk in the dark.

Follow a tree-house theme

You can decorate your kids' bunk bed so that it looks like a tree house. Buy wallpaper that has a tree and apply it on the wall behind the bed. Instead of purchasing wallpaper, you can just draw on cardboard and cut out the tree design to attach behind the bed. Paint the bed with the color brown so that it resembles a wooden tree house. Attach props like artificial vines and twist it around the bed railings. Artificial flowers and plastic fruits can be hung on the posts of the bed too.

You only need imagination and a bit of resourcefulness to come up with bunk beds that are both practical and interesting for kids.

Is a lemon or lime tree okay to plant in a flower bed?

I would like to put some kind of fruit bearing tree in our front flower bed just to give it color. My options for the part of Texas I live in are Orange, Lemon, Plum, Pear or Lime. I want something that is smaller and most importantly that doesn't have a big root system (hence if its in the flower bed it will be close to the house / foundation? Can someone help me with which of the above trees would be okay in a flower bed? Thanks

I'd probably choose mostly which type of fruit you're likely to consume most of, and then ensure that you get a dwarfer form.

The Citrus plants are certainly great for flower beds, as they do flower regularly throughout the year, with a wonderful scent, and also have brightly coloured fruits. They;'re also likely to produce earlier good crops than some of your other fruits. This does partly depend on how close to the hosue you're planning on growing these, as any of them, if too close, would be a concern for me.

A Meyer Lemon would probably be my choice, I have friends with these in their beds, though i grow mine in containers, due to space limitations too. Citrus would be my first choice, as they're evergreen, so look great in the garden all year round. This Lemon variety is fairly hardy, and doesn't grow as tall as many of the others. It's also able to self-pollinate, which some fruits aren't able to do.

The great thing about trees is that they only extend their root network as much as the top growth needs it, so a pruned and contained tree will have a diminished root network. If you keep your bushes to a fixed height, then you will have less cause for concern. Lemons have fairly shallow fibrous root systems, that are less problematic than other types of fruit trees too. As they're shallow, ensure that they get watered and fed well, and you'll get great results.

The others, and why they would be potentially more work or problematic -

Many Limes, as much as I love them, won't self-pollinate, though you can buy some plants that have 2 varieties grafted onto the root stock, which can alleviate this issue. I don't find them as decorative or as easy to care for as Meyer lemons either, though adore the fruit.

Oranges tend to grow into larger plants than you may have the space for, though the choice of varieties is outstanding. Growing them in Louisiana they take 4 or 5 years or so to get to around 10' high, so can quickly take over a space.

The Plums and Pears are not quite as decorative as the others, though I did have a couple of Plum trees in my first garden, and liked them around my flower beds. Pears tend to want to become significantly larger than most other fruit, though an espaliered plants can be grown at a much lower height, and will fruit well - though I probably wouldn't have them amongst a mixed flower bed. If you do go for pears, then look for a variety that is grafted onto a quince, as this will not grow as vigorously as the others grafted onto pear root-stock.
