What Can You Do With Old Fabric?
What do you usually do with old dresses, clothes, and large pieces of fabric? You probably give them away, toss them, or simply pack them away and forget about them. However, there are actually lots of different things you can do with old fabric and that you should consider before you make the decision to toss. You will find that in most situations there is another option for the fabric to extend its life.
Save
You may have an old prom dress that is no longer in style. However, that does not mean you should get rid of the dress. Instead, if it is in good shape you should carefully pack it away until an occasion arises where you could use the fabric. So many times excellent fabric is just tossed because it is sewn into a style that is no longer popular. Get away from this habit and you will end up with a wide selection of fabric to use in many different projects in the future.
Rework
You can rework lots of fabric. If you are good at sewing then all you have to do is take the garment apart and rework it into a new pattern that you like or that is more stylish. Sometimes you can take old pieces of fabric and work it into a new garment. There are so many things to do with old fabric that you will want to use them when making new garments to add some originality and uniqueness.
Donate
If you don't know what to do with otherwise good fabric then consider donating it. There are lots of tailors out there who would really appreciate some free fabric. You can call a fabric shop and let them know that you are interested in donating some fabric and they can connect you with some potentially interested tailors. There is no need to throw fabric away when you can find someone who would love it!
Toss
When you have no other option then you can always toss the fabric. Sometimes dry rotted, worn, stained, and other damaged fabrics are past the point of no return. In this case you will want to simply toss it in the trash and forget about it. Knowing you did all you could to save it though is certainly worth it!
