It's in the bag this summer

As the sunshine descends all around and the colour trend takes hold, bags are embracing the full design spectrum showing their refined inspiration from mother nature and their playful side in different materials, styles and hues, reflecting that when it comes to mixing elegant and fun fashions; it's definitely in the ‘bag' this summer.

 

Starting with some festival favourite styles, backpacks can be found in a range of shearling examples from the mini-backpack of Jas MB or the shearling trim of Asos and in animal print by Vivienne Westwood.  The shoulder and cross-body bags are other popular modes for keeping our essentials close at hand and can be found in the animal print nappa and ponyskin Miss Hope shoulder from Dolce & Gabbana, ponyskin shoulder in leopard print from Emilio Pucci, crystal leopard print suede shoulder bag from Balmain or shearling button front shoulder from Christian Dior.

 

Animal magic continues its dominance with reptilian splendour slithering back into one of the seasons most prolific style statements with snake skin from Pauric Sweeney, Zagliani, Michael by Michael Kors and celebrity favourite of L.K.Bennett's Anna Bag.  Alternatively, alligator and crocodile skin is showing it is most definitely back with a bite from Burberry, Wallis, Nancy Gonzalez, DKNY and with the added trend of colour blocking from master material manipulators, Fendi.  While fur is generously adding that touch of class with Valentino's fur-trimmed bow bag in sensuous Camel hues, Yves Saint Laurent's fox fur trimmed suede leather shoulder or Lanvin's mini pop fox fur shoulder bag.

 

Bringing back those summer sunset tones, Miu Miu's Pelouche faux fur and leather shoulder bag comes in highly coloured orange and purple, Matthew Williamson's shearling-trimmed cracked-leather carryall in deep blue, deep red from Mulberry's oversized Alexa tote, Alberta Ferretti's large fabric shoppers in burnt orange or deep pinks in Maison Martin Margiela's satin fuchsia shoulder and Converse's All Star leather bowling bag.  You can also look to most of the colours of the rainbow in Versace's fringed leather and twill cross-body or Azzurra Gronchi's patchwork shoulder bag.

 

The landscape is represented by busy florals from River Island's raffia, Juicy Couture's Daydreamer and Collection by Debenhams cross-body bag or setting the pastoral scene in Jil Sander's vibrant bouquets on the leather-trimmed multicoloured silk and twill market bag, Harrods Vintage shoulder and Cath Kidston's homage to the 50's with her flower infused retro overnight or holiday bags.

 

From land to sea, serving the nautical theme this season are Paul's Boutique anchor print Polly padlock bags or the Breton stripes of Dune's List duffel, the cross-body bag from Fat Face and Ri2k Aldridge Patent shoulder handbag.  On the other hand (or shoulder) keep it on the coast this summer with a selection of beach bags in tote styles from Radley's Putney bucket, Balenciaga's colour blocking Seashore and Christian Louboutin's fabric Suola America to the shoppers of Marc by Marc Jacobs striped logo or Hat Attack's two tone raffia and Pieces' Tara stripe both in straw, bagging yourself the latest trends this season.
