what are some games or tactics to teach kids to snowboard?
trainee snowboard instructor, part of my exam is teaching children the basic progressions (skating, straightrunning, sideslipping, pendulum, basic turning etc)

Yes, kids are crazy! The bigger the group, the crazier and more mutiny you will experience. When teaching kids remember the MOST important thing, to have FUN. Focus on having fun, even if it means taking off the snowboard to build a snowman. Make it a fun experience. One tip I used teaching large groups of 5-8 year olds..... I would show them the proper technique. Then I would give them a destination (i.e. near pole #12) and tell them to meet me there. There were allowed to make snowballs until I arrived. I would stop about 30 feet in front of them and say, "STOP!".... they would stop making snow balls.... then I would yell "FIRE!" ...and I would cover my vital areas until they ran out of snowballs..... then on to the next lesson. But the main thing is that they always went where I said, and I never had to chase them down. That is a tactic is used for the most rowdy groups.
*One other tip, if you do let them pelt you with snowballs make sure if you have kids 6 years and under, go 20 feet downhill so they can hit you....BUT for kids 6-10 stop 30 feet uphill so they have to throw uphill towards you (decreasing the impact significantly)
But just remember, its all about FUN. Not like an adult lesson, adults ALWAYS have goals, they understand the all the risks. Kids just want to have fun, as soon as a child stops having fun stop the lesson and let things chill out. Ask the child what he/she wants to do and reassure them there is no wrong answer. Make sure snowboarding is a positive experience for them.
