One of the most beautiful places on Earth sits in the Atlantic Ocean east of Charleston, South Carolina. The island of Bermuda is surrounded by deep blue waters and bordered by pink sandy beaches. It's lined with pastel-colored buildings, quaint churches and historical structures. The island has lush vegetation, including palm and casuarina trees as well as hibiscus and poinsettia plants.

Horseshoe Bay is the most popular and is defined by a half-moon swath of pink sand. It is generally crowded and sometimes packed to the gills. It offers a wide range of amenities not found at the island's other beaches, including a lifeguard on duty from May through September.

Elbow Beach is a mile-long expanse of pink sand and is also very popular. Although the eastern half is reserved for guests of the Elbow Beach Hotel, the western section is one of the safest beaches for swimming because of protective coral reefs surrounding it.

Warwick Long Bay is a half-mile beach in Warwick Parish known for its picturesque coral formation that rises just above the water. Its backdrop is low scrub grass. The relative seclusion of Warwick Long Bay attracts joggers, walkers and horseback riders. The coral reef keeps the waters calm.

Astwood Cove is nestled in the steep cliffs of Warwick Parish. It has fine sand and is ideal for snorkeling. Neighboring Astwood Park is a good place to picnic and hike. Narrow footpaths thread the cliff-tops, bringing you closer to nature.

Church Bay, with its unusually deep pink-sand beaches, is a prime sunbathing spot but also a terrific place to snorkel. Its reef plus the potboilers, rocks sticking above the surf, are close to the shore. The result is a habitat for a wide variety of marine life.

Chaplin Bay is one of Bermuda's most picturesque beaches when it's there since it virtually disappears during high tide. It straddles the boundary of two parishes, Warwick and Southampton. An open-air coral barrier rises from the water, partially separating one half of the beach from the other.

John Smith's Bay was named after the governor of the U.S. settlement of Jamestown. It's the only public beach in Smith's parish. It's long and flat with pale pink sand typical of the south shore. John Smith's Bay has a lifeguard on duty in the summer as well as basic toilet and changing facilities.

Shelly Bay Beach, also on the south shore, is a kids-friendly place and has all the amenities needed for a family day at the beach. It has shallow, blue-green tropical waters, sand laced with little seashells and plenty of toys to rent. You can rent a locker, an umbrella, snorkels, beach gear and a sailboat. The playground has swings, slides and climbing frames galore, and the Shelly Bay Beach House sells food and drinks.

Tobacco Bay Park is a popular place for the entire family and offers all the amenities needed to enjoy the beach or the water. Tobacco Bay's origin dates back to 1775 when islanders gathered to load gunpowder onto American ships during the Revolutionary War. The Park's focal point is the Tobacco Bay Beach Pavilion, where you can rent loungers, umbrellas or snorkeling gear, and purchase food and soft drinks. The Pavilion also contains changing rooms and bathrooms.

Somerset Long Bay in Sandys Parish is an isolated spot that draws relatively few visitors, especially during the week. The water is shallow, leaving the swimming pretty much to kids and chasing most swimmers to other beaches. Nevertheless, Somerset Bay is a great place for a picnic, long walk or just getting away from it all.

travel to bermuda in June?

I've found out lots of information about travelling to Bermuda in June, but I've got two questions:

Is June a good month to travel? Is it hurricane season or anything like that?

Also - do kids under 18 need passports? My oldest will be 15 and won't even have a driver's license or state issued ID.

June is a great time to be in Bermuda!! Even though it is hurricane season there isn't much to worry about. Firstly the island is only 22 square miles in the middle of the Atlantic a hard target to hit. Secondly, it is the beginning of the season and storms (if any) tend to be less severe IF they were to form at that time due to the ocean temperature hasn't risen enough to fuel a big storm.
