How do I hand wash a hand made fleece shrug?

I recently bought a hand made fleece shrug and it says to only hand wash the clothing. After wearing it to the club a couple times it has become...ripe. I don't want to damage the clothing by washing it improperly. What is the best way to hand wash it?
I do not have enough money to buy laundry or lingerie bags to put my shrug in while washing it. So this needs to be a cheap easy way to wash something.

In a bucket with laundry soap and start using your hands to mix it in. You'll probably want to hang dry it.
