With Multi-cam in the works, questions about USAF ABU future and such?
Now for anyone who has worn the ABU, you will realize how ridiculous of a uniform it is. For anyone who actually works outside of an office, its a nightmare. It's hot, heavy, and useless as a "battle uniform" because you can't wear it into a battle (not flame resistant). When I was in Iraq if I had to go to an area with an upgraded battle posture I had to put on Army ACU's as the cotton ABU's were not readily accessible at the time.
Now I notice the Army is looking into investing in the multi-cam, and Marines seem pretty defiant on their 2 different uniform schemes, and the Navy decided to go to a blue camouflage for god knows what reason. Has there been any talk into re-designing the ABU to make it a good uniform for people who actually work out in the elements/outside of the wire? Or is the Air Force still determined to press out uniforms to keep generals warm inside their air conditioned offices and have 100 pen holder slots?
4 Pen holder slots. The new Army multi-cams have more pen slots than the ABU. There are now plenty of fire resistant ABUs out there, though they're still "issue only" for people getting deployed. There's also plans to produce a summer weight ABU.
As to developing a new ABU, I haven't heard of any plans for this, and I would hope with the decreasing budgets which led to manning cuts that we can stick with this uniform for at least the near future.
