Would a Kimberwick or a Pelham be better for my horse?
Ok so my horse is pretty high strung, and he can get out of control sometimes, and too strong out ont trails. He is ok in the ring, because I really just use him for mainly dressage, but when I take him out on a trail, he gets real strong with me. And yesterady when I took him out in just a regular snaffle, him and another horse took off down a gravel road about a quarter mile long at a dead gallop and I had absolutely no control over him. I tried turning him in a circle and alternating pressure on the reins but nothing worked, and my trainer said that I need a stronger bit. We are all ok, but I barely avoided running out on an asphalt road with him and I can tell you he still wouldn't have stopped. Do you think a Pelham or a Kimberwick would be better for him? Its just for trail rides.

the reason why? with the two sets of reins your going to be able to ride him just like a snaffle 90% of the time. But when he acts the fool, you have the second set of reins to engage the curb to get a bit more control. Alternately a pelham with a mullen mouth is a great way to "tell him" he isnt doing dressage right now and get alot of stoping power. The other reason is if you progress in dressage eventually your going to need to use two reins and two bits, may as well start learning how now.
